Taking Exams at the Examencommissie Secondary Education
Welcome to the information page about taking exams at the Examination Board for Secondary Education. Here you will find everything you need to know to prepare, where your exam takes place, and how the exam process works.

Prepare for your examExam time and place
The date, location, and time of your exam can be found on the candidate platform. The exam center is located on the 1st floor of the Consciencegebouw (Koning Albert II Laan 15, 1210 Brussels), near Brussels North station.
Waiting area in the exam center
The waiting area is for candidates only. Your parent or guardian may accompany you to the reception desk. After that, your guardian goes to the waiting area on the ground floor. Guidance during the exam is only allowed as an additional measure for candidates with a care issue, with a medical certificate.

Valid identification
Make sure you have an identity card or a valid alternative with you. Without valid proof, you are not allowed to take the exam.

On time
You may be up to 15 minutes late, but you will not receive extra time.

Store personal belongings
Store your coat, bag, and mobile phone in a locker after check-in.

Take the exam

Oral exam
Prepare in a separate room. The examiner will pick you up when the preparation time is over.

Digital exam
Take your exam in the exam room. Log in with your personal code and finish with the end button.

Attendance certificate
Download your attendance certificate via the candidate platform.

Sick or unable to attend?
You may unsubscribe late or not arrive without justification 4 times a year. This results in a non-participation.
Non-participation
You will receive a ‘non-participation’ if you:
- Are not present at the scheduled exam
- Unsubscribed too late
- Are more than 15 minutes late
- Cannot present a valid identification
- Cannot participate for another reason
After 5 non-participations, you will be suspended for 2 months. You must re-register and pay the registration fee after the suspension.

Frequently Asked Questions
No, exams are only conducted in Dutch, except for language exams.
You may participate up to 15 minutes after the start, if organizationally feasible. No extra time is given. More than 15 minutes late results in a ‘non-participation’.
