Request an exemption from the Examination Board secondary education
If you are a candidate at the Examination Board for secondary education and meet certain conditions, you can apply for an exemption. Here you will find all the information on how to do this.
Conditions
Exemptions can be requested for study programs in the 3rd grade of secondary education.
- For subjects in which you achieved 50% or more in the final year.
- If you received a C-certificate at the end of the final year of full-time secondary education.
- For modules in adult education for which you have received a (partial) certificate (max. 7 years old).
You will not receive an exemption for:
- Subjects in the 1st and 2nd grade of secondary education.
- If you cannot provide a C-certificate from the final year of full-time secondary education.
- Work experience, foreign education, or training by private companies.
Submitting an exemption file
You submit your file via the candidates' platform. Make sure you are registered before making an application. All documents must have a stamp and signature from the school management.

Annual report with annual totals
The report must be no older than 7 years.

Individual synthesis sheet
Contains the decision of the class council with justification of the C-certificate.

Results of the integrated test (GIP) and internship
If you did not pass the internship and/or GIP, you will not receive an exemption for specific subjects. Submit the report and result of the GIP.

If applicable: curriculum or study program
This applies if you attended school in the French-speaking or German-speaking Community.

If applicable: proof of passed final objectives for economic subjects
For exemptions in subjects such as general economics, business economics, etc. Request the proof from the school or class council. It must be signed by the management and have a stamp.
Frequently Asked Questions
You can appeal a decision of the exemption committee.
- An appeal can be lodged up to 30 calendar days after the decision.
- Only possible with new evidence.
- Follow the procedure in the notification about the refused exemption in the candidates' platform.
For results you previously achieved through the Examination Board, you do not need to apply for exemptions. These are automatically transferred if the subject content is the same.
